Art Paxton is a commercial and fine arts photographer. The son of a naval aviator, he was born in Jacksonville, FL, and grew up in such diverse places as London, Pensacola, Washington and Panama. From an early age Arthur drew, moving to oil paints as a teenager. He earned a BA from the University of Virginia (1968). After service with the elite Army band from 1968 –71, he earned an MA at SUNY Stony Brook (1973). With the purchase of his first camera at the age of 27, his need for visual expression returned with a vengeance, even as heg was to begin a doctoral program in music (DMA from Columbia University, 1981). Art’s recent use of digital tools, continues where his painting left off, offering control over color, and the freedom to explore images drawn from life. Paxton’s transformations of his original photographs are printed with pigmented inks on acid free watercolor paper, chosen for their archival properties.
