My relationship with photography has developed over 30 years, starting
with setting up my own darkroom in a crawlsapce under the house I
grew up in, through college and subsequent eductation, and all through
my professional career. I have kept my art to myself for the most
part, but have recently started exhibiting.
I develop an
intimacy with my subjects through the camera in a way that differs
from how I interact otherwise. I percieve the world more intuitively
through the viewfinder of a camera than I do with my naked eyes,
and the ability to capture those perceptions through the medium
of photography has always inpsired me.
Nature in it's
many forms dominates most of the iimages I am drawn to. In a natural
environement, in it's elemental state I feel life most vigorously.
Water, rock, tree, soil and sky come together again and again in
infinite designs and patters that breath, grow and change. A living
artwork and the ulitmate creation, nature speaks to me most through
details, short stories adn vignettes rather than broad expanses
of landscape. I take what calls to me, tells me about its life,
and points to God.
